As discussed, we are getting together for a community service project this Saturday, February 9th. We will be helping to restore–following the 2017 wild fires–a grove at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center’s Living Classroom. We are scheduled to volunteer from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon. February is the month of fellowship and love so consider this our Valentine’s gift to our local community.

The Center’s website states:

“Our organic garden and citrus orchard sustained damage in the Canyon Fire 2 in October 2017. It will take a village to restore our grove and transform it into a thriving Food Forest that meets human needs while protecting ecosystem health and maximizing biodiversity.

Please wear long pants, boots or sturdy shoes with a hard sole, and bring a long sleeved shirt to protect from sun or for comfort while moving mulch. Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a water bottle to refill from our ice water coolers! If you have your own gloves, please bring those – we will have a limited number of pairs to loan for the day.”

In response to our question about whether we should bring other tools, they responded:

• Shovel
• Wheelbarrow
• Pruners
• Rake
• Buckets

They provided directions to the Center:

• Gate code #7199
• Please enter through Irvine Regional Park and provide gate code for access.
• Follow signs to Outdoor Education Center.
• Enter using gate code at bottom gate, travel up the hill and park in main lot.
• Please check in at administration office.

We’ll make a call on the fly as to whether we get together for lunch after the project.

Please send an email to  by Thursday, February 7th so we can get an idea of how many men will be participating and who can bring any of the requested items mentioned above.
