Pastoral Letter from Bishop Peter – August 27, 2019 – The Feast of Saint Monica

Greetings to my dear brothers and sisters of Saint Matthew Church: As you know, in April of 2018 I had a stroke. This stroke caused me to be absent from Saint Matthew Church for nine months. When I returned, I discovered that the Parish Council, as well as the priests and deacons of Saint Matthew Church, had stepped up to continue the sacramental ministry of our church during my recovery. The first plan was that I would return and assume my pastoral duties as before with the assistance of the other priests. Another plan under consideration…

Pastoral Letter from Bishop Peter – December 7, 2018

[The following letter was originally published to announce the appointment of a Vicar General position at Saint Matthew Church. While that position no longer exists, the letter may prove valuable reading for background and history of some of the ministers, both lay and ordained, at Saint Matthew Church.] Greetings to all the brothers, sisters, and friends of Saint Matthew Ecumenical Catholic Church! It has been my privilege and pleasure to have served as your pastor from the beginning of the founding of our parish community in November of 1985. In the first few years I…

A New Identity

We’re pleased to announce that Saint Matthew Church has a new identity—in the form of a new logo and website. The PR & Communications ministry recently embarked on a rebranding project to integrate the core values and history of…

A Letter from the Parish Council

Good Morning Friends of Saint Matthew Church! It is another marvelous Sunday in Southern California and we enjoyed celebrating the mass with all of you. Everyone probably noticed the elegant new chairs! We know you will agree that they really brighten up our spiritual home. Bishop Peter continues to recover from his stroke and is getting better day by day. We understand that his recovery will be slow but with continued prayers we know that he will return to preside for us again. Many people have asked about financial donations to help with medical bills….

A Homily by Bishop Peter While Recovering

As we gather here today, remember what was spoken to our ancestors of old. We remember the same words He addressed to us and spoke to us. They were not merely for people long ago or people in recent times but these are the words of God. To people of all time and in all places these are the words spoken to the prophets by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. You’re not merely of this world that you belong to but to that world which is yet to come, a new world filled with…
