Description

Falling Upward Book Link

This study offers a fresh way of thinking about spirituality that grows throughout life.

In Falling Upward, Fr. Richard Rohr seeks to help readers understand the tasks of the two halves of life and to show that those of us who have fallen, failed, or “gone down” are actually the only ones who can understand “up.” We will learn that nothing is wasted, and nothing is by chance. This is true both in our youth and young adulthood as well as in our middle and senior years. In youth, we may tend to think that there are mistakes we can make which will ruin our lives forever. This study will help reframe those choices that we regret. There are certain things to be learned in the first half of life that will set the stage for our years of maturity. Most of us tend to think of the second half of life as largely about getting old, dealing with health issues, and letting go of life, but the whole thesis of this book is exactly the opposite. What looks like falling down can largely be experienced as “falling upward.” In fact, it is not a loss but somehow actually a gain, as we have all seen with elders who have come to their fullness. Let us come together, young and old, and proclaim our spiritual journeys together!

This is a four-week study. Weekly handouts will be made available at the Facebook group, ‘Saint Matthew Bible Study.’ We recommend reading the book before we start. It is available in paperback and also on Kindle and audio if you prefer to listen rather than read.
